Help 1850 William H., Samuel H., Harriet S., & Deborah I. & Almira Stur*evant
Would you be familiar with this family?
I am trying to find this Sturtevant/Sturdevant
family on census records 1850 & any after if possible.
John Sturtevant was b. 1809 Albany, NY d. April 25, 1841 in
Prattsville, Greene County, New York.
John Sturtevant m. 1829 Harriet Tiffany.
Harriet was b. 1811 & d. Sept 1835. John then m. Almira ___ bef 1841.
John's ch. all born 1830-1841( mentioned in his 1841 will): William H., Samuel H., Harriet S., & Deborah I. Sturtevant.
1830 Census Albany 2nd ward shows John Sturtevant between ages of 20-30 living with a 20-30 yr old female (Harriet)
1840 census Greene Co, NY
John Sturdevant:
Males age 10-15- 1
Males 20-30- 2
Males age 30-40-2
Females age under 5- 2
Females 10-15- 1
Females 20-30-1
JOHN's WILL:
JOHN STURTEVANT of Prattsville Will Probated June 14, 1841
Heirs: Wife, Almira; sons William H. and Samuel H. Sturtevant; daughters, Harriet S. and Deborah I.; brother-in-law, Samuel Hasey of Oswego.Executors: Elijah Wood of Roxbury, Greene County and Samuel Hasey. Witnesses: Samuel Hasey, William H. Jackson and Peter A. Frier.
Since John died in 1841, it is possible that Almira remarried by 1850. The children would be anywhere from age 10-20 yrs of age. The two daughters would be ten-fifteen yrs of age and one son could possibly be 9 yrs of age, with one son being close to 20 yrs old. I believe the female age 10-15 yrs old would be a niece by the name of Sarah Calhoun, dau of Wm & Susan Calhoun as she is on the 1850 census with her aunt Margaret & fam.
Thanks for any assistance you can give.
