I have been away from research for awhile, and just now saw this posting. I do not know if this will help with the above discussion but I have RICHARD STODGELL as father of the emigrant John, born 10 April 1615.

I obtained this information from the "Hundreds" records in the "Round Room of the Chancery Lane Public Record Office" in London. These ancient records are written on sheepskin and photocopies were not allowed when I was there in 1990.

This John, son of Richard, was born in N. Petherton, Somerset, England. I have him as married to Ann Franks (undocumented), lived in Essex Co., VA and died circa 1705. I have his son, John (2) bc 1665 Essex Co., VA as married to Ann Madison, also undocumented, died circa 1725 in Orange Co., VA

Possibly, certified documentation of the birth record of emigrant John could be obtained by writing to the PRO in London. If anyone does obtain documentation of any of the above, may I please pay costs for copies? Thank you!
Bettye
