Hello,
I have a death certificate for William Andy Sturgill. He died in Lee Co, Virginia on May 9, 1919 from a coal mining accident. He was born in Kentucky on January 2, 1885. His parents were Isom Sturgill and Louisa Wells, both born in Kentucky. My guess is Letcher Kentucky for everyone. His residence at the time of his death was Keokee, VA in Lee County. He was buried on May 10, 1919 on the Maggard farm in Keokee, VA.
William Andy Sturgill married Belle Caudill in Letcher Co, Ky on April 27, 1916 near Eolia. If you look on the Wise Co, Va website you will see a marriage of William A. Sturgill to Nannie B. Creech on July 21, 1904. I don't know if this was the same William A. Sturgill or not but my guess it was.
He was not related to me, but after his death, his widow, Belle Caudill Sturgill married my great Grandfather William Albert Owens on Nov 19, 1919 in Wise Co, VA. In piecing together my family history I ran across his death certificate and made a copy of it. He deserves to be remembered.
