The second wife of my g-g-grandfather, Stephen Harry Carpenter, was Mary Jane Sullivan. Mary Jane was born July 25, 1845, and she married Stephen Harry Carpenter on July 26, 1877, and died Oct 11, 1879. She had one child Arpy D. Carpenter on Oct. 1, 1878 and died Feb. 26, 1879. The family story was that she was the best friend of Stephen's first wife, Malinda Adeline Jones, and when Malinda was dying asked her husband to marry Mary Jane. He proposed soon after Malinda's death and I have a letter that Mary Jane wrote to him regarding the matter. I also have a picture of Mary Jane. If anyone is interested, I would be happy to send copies.
