A biography of Rev. Ambrose Sullivan is included in "Montana, Its Story and Biography", Vol 3, pages 698 & 699. Ambrose Sullivan was born, 11 Jun 1875, son of Timothy and Johanna (Connelly) Sullivan, both natives of Ireland. Timothy was born in County Kerry & died at age 50 in 1889, Butte, MT. Johanna died at age 33, in 1881. Timothy came to Boston, MA,in young manhood. He was a miner and miller working various places until coming to Butte, MT, in 1880. He sent for the rest of the family in 1881. Timothy and Johanna were married in Pennsylvania and had three sons and one daughter: Ambrose (priest in Havre, MT); Steven J. (priest in Townsend, MT); John B. (physician/surgeon in Havre, MT); Josephine (Townsend, MT). Ambrose attended parochial schools in Helena, MT, until 1889 when he went to Spokane, WA, to attend Gonzaga College. In 1892, he joined the Jesuit order and after eleven years of studying and teaching in the Northwest, in 1903 he was sent to Montreal, Canada, to study theology. He was ordained priest in 1906 and sent to Pendleton, OR, as assistant priest of St. Mary's Church, where he remained for about a year. Then he was sent to Cleveland, OH, for about a year. In 1909, he was sent to St. Ignatius Mission in Missoula County, MT, and worked among the Indians until 1916. He was sent to Havre, MT, until the fall of 1917 then once more went to St. Ignatius until Aug 1918, when he returned to St. Jude parish in Havre, MT. Rev.
