Sunday, April 20, 1902 Married by Telephone Sallisaw, April 19: With a long distance telephone as the medium of communication with the minister at Sallisaw, Miss VICTORIA SULLIVAN and JOHN DOWDAY were married at Muldrow. An unexpected dearth of ministers at Muldrow necessitated the employment of the Sallisaw minister, and he being unable to arrive on schedule time, the bride, who is the long distance operator at Muldrow, suggested the telephone as the only solution of the difficulty. Before the ceremony was performed, Miss Sullivan's fellow operators in the Northern district were notified and all the lines were connected with Muldrow. This is the first marriage by telephone in Indian Territory. transcribed by Nita Ardmore, Okla local paper Notify Administrator about this message?
