In a recent posting to the Lamar Co Ala mail list, it was mentioned that some aold newspapers were for sale. Included with them was a photograph of John Wilkes Booth. The Surrat family of Vernon, Al had a son named Samuel. Mary Surratt, executed for conspireing to kill Pres. Lincoln, testified that she corresponded with Capt Samuel Surratt CSA of Tishomingo, MS. Some think this the same as Samuel s/o William ca. 1850 Vernon, Ala. No one can say how the photo of Booth came to be in Vernon, Ala. Any comments or info appreciated.
