Thank you for your reply. I, several years ago, went with
a group of 6th graders on a hike to see the remains of
Jimmy Surratt's cabin. It was nearly gone then and I'm
sure now there is nothing left. He lived on a ridge in
the trees in Bland Co. He must have made a living, maybe
trapping, or as a farm hand. I don't really know. A relative of mine was his last wife. She is buried at the
Poor Farm in Pulaski Co. VA. They were m. about 1874
in Bland, Elizabeth was her death date according to Poor
Farm records was 9-23-1950. The Bland Co. marriage records
show them being m.12-24-1874. These dates don't look right,
but the records show them as such.
