The Paul R Sarrett family tree has the John M Surratt (1828-1875) buried in Box Chapel as the son of Jacob Surratt and Lucinda (possibly) Moreland.

Paul Sarrett also has a wonderful Sarrett website.

His records for this John M Surratt stop at the 1860 census.

Some years ago I was doing a page by page search of the 1870 Alcorn County census looking for Cornelia Surratt Yancey, the sister of John M, and made a note of all the Surratts I found.

Township 1, Range 7
wriiten page 6
dwelling 1, family 1

J M Surratt, age 42, born Al
Mary, 28, MS
America, 14, MS
Mattie, 7, MS
Nina, 4, MS
Charles, 2, MS
Mary, 4/12, MS

The Ancestry.com index has this family as Surran but the orginal record looks to me like a poorly crossed t.

Gary Clark
