Dale-

Sorry for the delayed response to your query. For the moment, I do not believe them to be the same. However, I cannot tell you that with much certainty. The Wilson Co., Tennessee records show a William Swain (born circa 1784) with either an initial "M" or "W." Although his is the only Swain family in the immediate area and surrounding counties, he appears to have two sons both named William. I do know for a fact that he did have two daughters named Catherine. Unfortunately, I don't have much information beyond that.

My records show that one of the Williams was born between 1818-1830. Another, I do not have a birth date for. Perhaps they are the same, but I have more digging to do. One of those sons was in Wilson Co. for the 1880 Census living in a Dillard household. Hope some of this might help you!
