Stacey: We are wondering about this Ira Swain you said married an Elizabeth Harris. My husband's gr gr grandfather, Walter B. Swain (said by some to go by the nickname of Ira) married Elizabeth Harris in 1839 and they had a large family. He was born in 1816 in Preble Co and we think he might be a son of a Bethuel Swain who died about 1850. We think that Bethuel was a brother of Jacob although Bethuel gave his bp as NY...but many of the early Swains did live in NY before moving west.
A James Swain who died in Central America named Walter as an heir in his will and James had property that bounded old Bethuel's property. Jacob's son, Dural, was the administrator on James' will so we think there is a close relationship.
Walter B. moved to NE MO after the Platte Purchase.
