Anyway, My GGG Grandmother was Harriet J. Swain, daughter of Elisha Swain - who was a brother to the Ira Swain that married Elizabeth Harris. Ira was first married to Jane Shidler who died during the Cholera season of 1849.

Shidler, Jane - Preble Co.
He later married Elizabeth Harris: Swain, Ira - m. 1851 - Marriage Book # 001 - page 267 Harris, Elizabeth - Preble County, OH.
I do not doubt that your Swains connect to mine, but I wonder if this is the same Ira Swain. This Ira was born in PA in 1805. The first seven of the eleven kids in Ira's family were all born in PA, the last 4 in OH. Ira's dad, Jacob was born in PA. I have never seen a reference to him being from NY,although prior generations could have been. Let me know if I can help in some way. I do own a copy of the 1880 US Census if you need me to look someone up in that reference.
