I'm hoping someone will see something that connects to a Swain somewhere. My grandmother, had 3 notes written in an old address book. #1 was that her grandfather,[2]Thomas Dawes mother's last name was Swain. I've found these records which have the first name of Jane, but no last name. William Dawes b. 1796 Mitcheldean, Gloucester, England Married: 1821 Mitcheldean, Gloucester, England + Jane ---?--- b. 1800 Mitcheldean, Gloucester, England Children: [1] James Dawes Christening: 17 Nov. 1822 [2] Thomas Dawes ---------------[my gg-grandfather] Christening: 09 April 26 1926 [3] Jane Dawes Christening: 28 Feb. 1828 [4] Jane Dawes -------[2 Jane’s & dates? Maybe the same person?] Christening: 28 Feb. 1832 [5] Clement Dawes Christening: 20 May 1832 [6] Elizabeth Dawes Christening: 20 May 1832 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Most, if not all of their children, later immigrated to Ontario, Canada, then later yet to Southern California. Note #2 in my grandmother's address book; He [her grandfather, Thomas Dawes] was a Methodist Minister and went to Ann Arbor and received his M.D. and interned at John Hopkins, NY.” [He was a doctor in Thamesford, Ontario, Canada] I have the silver cast, which was the mold used for part of the headstone on his grave, and the engraving on it says; “Thomas Dawes, Died May 7th 1884. Aged 56 years, 4 Mo.” That would have had him born in January 1828, which coincides with a few other things I’ve found. It’s possible in the transcribing process; it would be easy to miss read a 6 and an 8, if the work wasn’t easy to read. Note #3 in the address book; “William Dawes Jr., b. April 6 1745 and d. Feb. 25 1799. One of the three sent on that famous ride in 1775, to warn Hancock and Adams that the British were coming.” Thanks, Teri Notify Administrator about this message?
