Swain Family Genealogy Forum

Hello Robert,
I came across your message while checking out my Canadian ancestors. I am a descendant of the Swain-Staple-Smith clan, via William Swain and Jane Staples' daughter Hannah. She married Richard Smith (like her, a grandchild of Thomas Staples). Their son Richard Swain Smith, born in Lindsay, married Melissa Jane Fee (another family who emigrated from Wexford, Ireland) and emigrated to Oak Park, Illinois, in the 1890s. Their son, my grandfather, was named Lloyd Stanford Smith. So although Hannah (Stanford) Swain's maiden name may have been forgotten by my generation, I can see that it was remembered earlier (or else that is the strangest coincidence in the world!).
Although she no longer has the book (probably borrowed), my mother copied out a good deal of information (some verbatim) from a book published in 1959, "The Staples Family in Canada and the United States, A Genealogy," compiled by Edgar E. Staples and Violet Jackson Carr. I'd be glad to share what information I have on the family, legends included. At the time, the compilers were unable to find out much additional information about the Staples family in Ireland. If that has changed, I am quite interested. Thank you for adding to my store of information, in any case!
