Laura, It has been a long time since you posted your query about Martha Swain's sister Mrs. Young, so you may have this information by now, but I will respond just in case you don't. Joanna Frances "Fannie" Swain born abt. 1859 in McNairy Co., Tennessee, married Thomas Calvin Young who was born 1851/1853 either in Henderson or McNairy Co., Tennessee. I don't know where they married or where their families were in 1870, but here is the 1880-1920 census information about them. 1880 Census Jackson, Newton, Arkansas Calvin YOUNG Self M Male W 27 TN Farming TN TN Francis YOUNG Wife M Female W 21 TN Keeping House TN TN John YOUNG Son S Male W 6 AR TN TN Jasper YOUNG Son S Male W 2 AR TN TN Source Information: Census Place Jackson, Newton, Arkansas Family History Library Film 1254052 NA Film Number T9-0052 Page Number 604D Calvin and Joanna Frances were in Johnson Co., Arkansas, from 1900 through 1920: 1900 > ARKANSAS > JOHNSON > PITTSBURG TWP Series: T623 Roll: 64 Page: 127 Calvin Young Nov 1851 49 married 28 TN Unknown Unknown farmer [no name for wife] Mar 1859 41 9/7 TN TN TN Jasper R. ? 1879 21 s AR TN TN Rosy G. ? 1886 13 AR TN TN at school Ethel [listed as “son”] ? 1890 10 AR TN TN at school Carter Dec? 1892/1893 7 AR TN TN Robert ? 1898? 2 AR TN TN 1910 > ARKANSAS > JOHNSON > SPADRA TWP Series: T624 Roll: 54 Page: 164 Calvin Young 57 married 33 TN TN TN laborer garden Frances 51 9/7 TN TN TN Rose 21 AR TN TN Thomas C. 16 AR TN TN farm laborer working out Robert J. 12 AR TN TN 1920 > ARKANSAS > JOHNSON > CLARKSVILLE; SPADRA Series: T625 Roll: 68 Page: 273 Calvin Young 67 TN TN TN farm laborer Frances 60 TN TN TN [next door] Bob Young 22 AR TN TN [can't read occupation, but not farmer] Mary 21 AR AR AR Bob Jr 2 and 1/2 AR AR AR Ruby [mn not readable] 5 mo AR AR AR I am researching the Young family. According to a descendant, Thomas Calvin was the son of John A. and Catherine Young of Henderson Co., Tennessee, but I have not located them on the 1860 or 1870 censuses to confirm that they had a son of the right age. It is also possible that Thomas Calvin's parents were Orville and Mary Young. They had a son named Calvin, b. 1851, who was on the 1860 census with them in McNairy Co., but he wasn't living with them in 1870. Where was the Swain family in 1870? I assume Calvin Young was living near by. Janice Notify Administrator about this message?
