Laura,
Teral Tiz! No wonder I couldn't find Solomon and Rachel on the 1880 census.

Here is the 1930 census information for Fannie Joanna Young and her older brother John Riley Swain:

1930 Census Clarksville, Johnson, Arkansas; Roll: 79; Page: 7B; Enumeration District: 24; Image: 1137.0.
Fannie J Young head 70 wd married at age 13 TN TN TN no occupation
John R Swain brother 75 wd married at age 21 TN TN TN no occupation

I assume Fannie died in Johnson Co., Arkansas, because she had children and grandchildren there.

My husband's direct Young ancestor was Thomas Calvin Young's great aunt. So these folks are pretty collateral to the line I am researching. My interest has primarily been to sort out the Youngs in southern Tennessee and northern Alabama and Mississippi. The various branches of the Young family moved back and forth over the state line and intermarried. And all the men were named Thomas, William, John and Archibald!

In the process for trying to figure out which Young belongs to which family, I have picked up misc. information about individuals. Thomas Calvin Young and Joanna Frances Swain fall into that category.

I believe Joanna's parents were Sergeant Jasper Swain and Elizabeth Waldrop/Waldroup.

I found what appears to be a second marriage for Sergeant Jasper Swain in Missouri. He married Elzetta/Elsetta P. Melton on 21 Apr 1874 in Ripley Co., Missouri. (Marriages, 1833-1900, Ripley County, Missouri.) The Melton family was on the 1850-1860 censuses in McNairy Co., Tennessee, and in Randolph Co., Arkansas for the 1870 census. (Elzetta's mother, Martha, was a Swain, certainly a relative, but I am not sure how she connects to your S.J. Swain.)

Elsetta was listed as "deceased" in a 1889 Randolph Co., Arkansas, biography of her brother-in-law J. T. Redwine. I have not been able to find the couple on the 1880 census.

I hope this is helpful.

Janice
