I seem to have something of a mess trying to figure out these two families. One line is tied to my maternal side, and the other to my paternal side. Does anybody know if they are related? FIRST FAMILY: 1 Thomas H. Swain 1854 - 1947 . +Jane Hallowell 1861 - 1946 .... 2 Thomas H. Swain, Jr. 1879 - 1949 ........ +Lois Gertrude Whipple 1884 - 1969 .... 2 Sarah (“Sadie”) Swain 1881 - 1967 .... 2 Alice M. Swain 1884 - .... 2 Nettie Swain 1887 - ........ +Walter J. Blakely .......... 3 Roy B. Blakely 1908 - .......... 3 Elsie Eloise Blakely 1909 - .......... 3 Alice Aileen Blakely 1911 - 1961 .............. +Elwood Palmer 1909 - 1989 .... 2 EDWIN CARTWRIGHT SWAIN 1889 - 1974 ........ +CORA BLANCH THORNTON 1891 - 1979 .......... 3 William Kendrick Swain 1913 - .......... 3 Kathryn Colleen Swain 1915 - 1998 .............. +Joseph W. Costly 1913 - 1996 .... 2 Estelle C. Swain 1892 - 1914 .... 2 Daisy E. Swain 1894 - 2001 ........ +Floyd Elbert McQuern 1893 - 1984 .... 2 Marcy L. Swain 1896 - .... 2 Mildred L. Swain 1898 - .... 2 Gladys M. Swain 1903 - .... 2 Francis E. Swain 1905 - 1948 NOTE: This first family has ties to the Thornton family on my maternal side. Edwin and Cora are buried in Spencer, Iowa, but most of this family is buried in Maple Hill Cemetery in Osceola, Iowa. SECOND FAMILY: 1 John Farrar Swain 1776 - 1811 . +Hannah Ann Ransom 1780 - 1867 .... 2 Aaron Swain 1804 - 1875 ........ +Betsy Baker 1812 - 1880 .......... 3 Julia Swain 1833 - .......... 3 Richard Johnson Swain 1835 - .......... 3 Darwin Perry Swain 1836 - 1864 .......... 3 Elisha Ransom Swain 1838 - .......... 3 Hannah Maria Swain 1843 - .......... 3 Daniel Tompkins Swain 1846 - .......... 3 Hosea Baker Swain 1848 - .......... 3 Sarah Elizabeth Swain 1849 - .......... 3 JOHN FARRAR SWAIN 1854 - 1938 .............. +JOSEPHINE FLETCHER 1856 - 1935 NOTE: This second family has ties to the Fletcher family on my paternal side. Darwin died in Andersonville Prison during the Civil War, and is buried in the National Cemetery in Andersonville, Georgia. John and Josephine are buried in Austin Cemetery in Sherman County, Nebraska. The name John Farrar seems to be rather repetitious and a bit confusing in the Swain families.
