Michael Swain is listed as Head of Household in the 1850 Federal Census for Alexander County,NC, Page 132. Alexander County was established in 1847 from Caldwell, Iredell and Wilkes Counties. Many court records burned by Federal troops in 1865. Taylorsville is the county seat of Alexander County.
