John E. Chesney and Hannah J. Swarts were my great great grandparents. My grandparents were Florence Ina Chesney and Carson Louis Kirkey. I'm sure you have seen my posting to Ann Chesney. I have just started trying to find out more about the members of my family. The genealogy written by my grandmother's sister in approximately 1920 has many names and birth dates of family, but I haven't been able to verify it yet. One thing that I'm finding very confusing is that the same given names are used again and again over the generations. Great Aunt Mae wrote that her aunt, Julitta Anna Chesney, married Ed Robinson, St. Louis. I guess that makes us related in some way!
My grandmother, Florence Ina Chesney, came west on a train to the Oregon Territory with her parents William Carroll Chesney (Julitta's brother) and Sarrah E. Roberts Chesney. My great grandfather seems to have been a bit of a rounder, losing the family homestead in a card game. My great grandmother got tuberculosis and my grandmother nursed her until she passed away in Seattle at around the turn of the century. My grandparents had four children, Muriel Hope Kirkey, b. 7/8/98, d. 5/82; Cecil Kirkey, b. 3/24/04, d. 10/66; Alice Mae Kirkey, b. 6/8/07, d. 1/21/99; Carroll Kirkey, b. ~1909, d. ~1970.
I notice in an earlier posting that you mentioned Ann Bond Carroll, wife of Abraham Davis Swarts and daughter of Benjamin Carroll. I have been trying to research the family connection to Charles Carroll of Carrollton, the signer of the Declaration of Independence. Family myth has it that we are related to him. Do you have any more details on Benjamin Carroll?
I am coordinating with my cousins to get more valid data together for our Chesney relatives and will be happy to share it as I pull it together.
