Interested Jacob Swayze b. New Jersey ca. 1844, living in Rockford, Sedgwick Co., Kansas in the 1880 census. His wife was Lizzie b. New Brunswick, Canada ca. 1840. This would appear to have been Elizabeth Harding White b. NB ca. 1838, from Calais, Washington Co., Maine.
I rather suspect that Jacob was descended from John Swayze, Jr. of Salem, Massachusetts and of Long Island, New York; members of whose family went to NJ. If so, then John's wife, Katherine King, was the sister of Mary King (m. John Scudder), and Elizabeth Harding White was descended from John and Mary (King) Scudder; so Jacob and Lizzie were likely distant cousins. I doubt if they were aware of such a relationship.
With Jacob and Lizzie in 1880 was a nephew, P. Butterfield. This nephew may have been a s/o Lizzie's probable sister, Amelia Abigail White, and of George Washington Butterfield. Also in Rockford was another sister of Lizzie's (or so I believe), Roxanna Marie White, married to Stillman Smith Woodcock. I have very little on these persons. If anyone is working on Swayze's in Kansas, perhaps they have some information.

Thomas
