Found John and Ellen living near Lebanon township Missouri in the 1860 US Census. On the farm next to them is a Dennis and Mary Sweeney with their children. John came over from Ireland in 1848 with two of his brothers (or so the story goes). I know his son John was 12 in 1860, so Ellen wasn't his birth mother. Further research is necessary.
