Hi Kathy,
My great grandmother was Sarah Jane Sweeton, daughter of Absolum Sweeton. She was born in Indiana. She was married to a Mr. Todd who died during the Civil War in Howell County, MO I believe. She had six children by Mr. Todd but I have been unable to find him thru census records etc. He was an ardent secessionist and books I have consulted on that region of Missouri report that one or more Mr. Todd's were bushwhacked for their leanings toward the South. In any event, she married my great grandfather, James M. Goodwin from Fulton County, MO during the Civil War around 1864 as his wife had just died. In the 1870 Census of Fulton County, AR she lists one child, Davis, age 14, in her household. I do not know whether it was her child or was her brother's child. I have no way of knowing. It was just shown as Davis Goodwin, I assume, but the Goodwin family history has no information on him as a Goodwin. Could she possibly been taking care of him after the Civil War? Or, it may have been one of her children with Mr. Todd whom she named Davis, since that is a name used by the Sweeton family. I hope that this is of some use to you. I am still trying to find out which Todd she was married to. Gloria Cingano has been a lot of help to me on this Sweeton information also.Have a nice day.
