Information I had on Swigarts in Ohio

Also, I have typed up some information I am including on Swigarts in OHIO. I was given some information years ago on this line and can't remember who gave it to me. I hope it helps someone.

I don't know if this helps and I can't tell you who sent this to me but I have been looking for a Myron Swigart, my gggrandfather for years. Over the years I have collected and exchanged information with many people and unfortunately this person did not put his/her name on the information I was sent but I have pages of information on Swigarts, Scheigerts, and other various spellings from immigrants form Germany. Below are the various swigarts I have that were in Ohio, there were different counties but then the boundaries kept changing so I am not sure what period you are looking for.

Michael Swigart, born in Somerset County Pa. in 1787 married Sarah Nave. He was teh son of Peter Swigart who was born in Germany and their children: Michael; Solomon; Joel; Barbara (Mrs. Huston); David, Elizabeth; Martha and Sarah. This family moved to Ohio in 1808. NOTE. SWIGART was not the orignial name on the passanger lists I was given.

SAmuel Swigart, farmer, born in Maryland (of German descent). Married Maria Dinkel (born in Virginia) and their children: William; John T.; Robert; Scott, and Mary E. The family moved to Seneca County, Ohio, and after SAmuel's death to Gratiot County, Michigan.

SAmuel Swigart, farmer, Lawrence Township, Stark County, Ohio. Born in Lancaster County, Pa. in 1814 (son Josephand Elizabeth Pfeiffer) S. who moved from Pa. to Stark County about 1822). Married in 1840 Ann Grubbs (also of Pa. ) their children: Isaiah, who married Sarah Diehl; LaFayette, who married Miss Frank Sisler; Samuel L.; Francis; Emma (Mrs. Stump), and Saloma.

Joel Swigart, Farmer, Bellbrook Green County, Ohio. Born in 1820, son Michael and Sarah (Nave) S. Married in 1843, Margaret Huddleston-children: Sarah J.; Mary C. Elmira; Elizabeth A. and Ida B.

James H. Swigart, farmer, White Eyes Township, Coshocton County, Ohio. Born in Harrison County in 1824 (son Joseph). In 1846 married Rozena Hamilton (of Tuscarawas County) children: Mary E. (Mrs. Henry Swigart); Elisha A. who married Althea Ewing; Margaret and Wesley.

John Schwighert, farmer, Clayton County, Iowa. Born in Germany July 1, 1826. Came to U.S. in 1840 and Landed in BAltimore and resided for over 2 years in Cumberland County; moved to Somerset County, Pa. and from their to Ohio. WAas a soldier in the Mexican War. In 1859 went to California; from there to Australia, but two years later returned to U.W. and settled in Jefferson Township, Clayton County, Iowa. Married (1), 1854, Maria Trandt (born in Germany) and they had 8 children, and (2) in 1873, Angeline Lewis, and they had 5 Children.

Michael Swigart, farmer, Bellbrook, Greene County, Ohio. Bornin 1927, son Michael. Married three times (1), in 1852, Elizabeth SHanks, one child; (2) 1855 Charlotta Swadner- children: Henry; Lincoln; Charles; Wilson and Samuel; and (3), 1867, Hannah V. Rike- children; Oscar, and one died in infancy. During Civil War was Captain of a Company of Home Guards.

Jacob Swigart, farmer, stock raiser, and State legislator, of DeWitt County Ill. Bornin Marion Country, Ohio, Sept. 21, 1827 (son Daniel and Elizabeth Swigart, the father born in Lancaster County, Pa. the mother in Virginia, both of German parentage, who moved to Ill. in 1849). Taught school several years. In 1850 married Rebecca Savis- nine children. Elected to State Legis. 1868.

Solomon Swigart, farmer,and saw mill owner, of Bellbrook, Greene County Ohio. Bornin 1832 (son Michael and Sarah (Ware) S.). In 1856 married Rebecca Campbell (of New York)- children Harriet; William; Mary C. ; Joseph M.; Albert S.; Edward; Nannie M.; Drusetta E.; Elmer E. and John W.

Captain Frank Swigart, lawyer, Logansport, Ind. Born in Clark County, Ohio, April 29, 1840 (son Samuel and Jane (McPherson) S. both born in Ohio, who settled in Cass County, Ind. in 1842. SAmuel S. was a trustee of Clay Township, and a justice of hte peace). In Civil WAr enlisted in Co. B 46th Ind. Inf. and served until November r1864; promoted to Captiancy in Oct. 1862; was severely woounded in La. at battle of Sabine Cross Roads. Admitted to Bar 1865. Married, in Oct 1865, Margaret Kline, of Miami Township- children: Charels E; William M.; Jesse E.; John F. land Peter D.

Jesse M. Swigart, farmer, Clay Township, Cass County, Ind. Born in Hio Sept 13, 1841, son Samuel and Jane (McPherson) S. In Civil War enlisted in Co. E. 118th Ind. REgt. 1863, and later was with 156th Ind. Regt. Farmed in Different places, ans was three years in Oregon. Married, March 1868, Alice LaRose-their children: Grace; Lillie May; Annie (died young); Earl; Dora (died young); Blanche, and Bertha (twins); Noah and Frank (twins); Fannie and Ellen (twins).

John T. Swigart, real estate and insurance, and a farmer, of Alma Gratiot County, Michigan. Born in Bloom Township, Seneca County, Ohio, July 5, 1845, son Samuel and Maria (Dinkel) S. In Civil War enlisted in the Union Army Co. L. 1st Mich. Engrs. and Mechanics, and served to close of war. Mr. Swigart served as Township Clerk; highway commissioner; justice of the peace; county clerk; was nominated for Sate Senate, 1892, but with his associates, failed of election. Married, in Dec 1876, Ella A. Crowley of (N.Y. city)-children: Edna M.; Raymond G. (who became a teacher and was a principal of Mt.Pleasant High school); and Emma M.

John Swikart, banker, of Wouth Witley, Ind. Born July 5, 1859, in Preble Co. Ohio. President of the Farmers' State Bank.

John G. Schweigert, Lawyer Westcliffe, Colorado. Bornin Toledo, Ohio, in November 1862 (son of John G. and Barbara (Dueringer) S. who came to U.S. in 1849, the father a builder and contractor). IN 1880 moved to Colorado and engages in minning; studies law; in 1889 elected county judge, and reelected in 1892; admitted to Bar 1893; served as clerk of Dist. Court 6 yeras; was county attorney of Custer County. Married, in 1887, Alice C. Smith- children: John L.; Willie G. amd Marie A.

Charlse H. Swigart hydraulic engineer. Born in Tiffin, Ohio, July 23, 1864,son Aaron and Abby (Whidden) S. Ed.: Heidelberg Coll: Ohio State Univ. Married, in 1895, Peral Battenfield- two daughters.

Sherman George Swigarr, civil engieer. Born in Copley, Ohio June 28, 1865 son George S. and Laura E. (Oviatte) S. Ed.: Buchtel Coll. Married, Sept. 1893 Anna Tait- children: Sherman T.a nd Pauline G. (This family of Swiss descent, of many generations, on fathr's side in Am. the mother from Conn. parat of early New England Settlers).

also amoung other records was
Stella May Swigart, born in coply Ho 23 Aug. 1876 who married Eudoise "Doise" E. Waters

Her father Was John W. Swigart b. 16 Oct 1836,

John W.'s father was Jacob Swigart b. 18 Oct 1815

I hope this helps you find your OHIO sschweikerts. I know that most of these people changed the spelling of their names as soon as they arrived.
