It depends on who you believe, some say the name came from
Joseph Swimmer (Germany), others say its Dutch descended from Thys Barentsen of leerdam Holland in 1661. Some of the many other spellings Svin, Svim, Svem, Svinn, Swem, Swaim, Swain, Swimm, Swaime, Swaem, Swaym, Swam Pronounced Swim, with the "V" changed to "W" in England. There was no "W" in the Norwegian alphabet.
Some say Swim's were members of the Viking tribes of Norway from SWEYN I also Svein, Viking king of Denmark and son of Harold Bluetooth and Queen Gunild.
