I recently finished MY research on ggf George D. Swindell (Swindle) and I have compiled the data into a booklet, “Swindell (Swindle) Family Tree-Roots of the Southeast”. The booklet contains about 165 pages and list family connection data on 2,000 relatives.
I started on this to be a short and simple write-up on my great Grandparent’s ancestors and descendants, but the more I researched present and past data on them the more complex the simple task became. To assist in this endeavor I later used a genealogy program (Family Tree Maker). This genealogy program has uniqueness in the way it allowed me to present the data. I could not in spite of the many attempts made to present the data in a straight-line descending order beginning with John Swindle. Therefore, I elected to show George D. Swindell and Esther Weathers and their descendants in PART I, Ancestors & descendants of John Swindle in PART II, and The ancestors & descendants of Henry Alexander Swindell in PART III.
In an effort to try to keep the document relatively small to accommodate printing costs, I elected to abbreviate and in some cases to not include all distant Swindle ancestral information I discovered. Although, I must apologize that it was necessary in some cases to list data on individuals in more than one PART of the document in order to show complete relationships and for the genealogy to flow through George D. Swindle/Swindell. All errors, omissions, and/or failures to include pertinent data on close relatives were not done intentional and hopefully we can correct them in later editions with your help and cooperation. I apologize for any and all errors and omissions in this write-up and will try to do a better job next time.
Some of this research came from available publications on ‘Swindle/Swindell’, ‘DeLoach's/Groover's’, ‘Samuel Durrence’, ‘Wallace Leroy Swindell & Ruby DeLoach Swindell’, the compiler's personal knowledge and many other sources such as lots of interviews, internet postings/research, critiques, and assistance from family members, and the numerous visits to cemeteries, etc. A special thanks to everyone that assisted, especially Hilda Waters Swindell, Gary Swindell, Elak Gavin Swindell, Delmer L. Swindell, June Swindell Moody, Mary Wilkinson Chapman, Katie Allijean Stubbs, Ronnie Bell, Ernie Roach, Norma Jean Martin, Joe Davis, Liberty County Records, Tattnall County Records, Census Records, numerous visits to cemeteries, Sweet Land of Liberty, Willie Community, Taylors Creek Community, and many many interviews, discussions, arguments, etc., with Swindell related family members.
Hopefully another family member working from this and other data will be able to tie the families into a larger Swindell/Swindle Family Tree. Almost daily new and more accurate data is being made available with the increased number of individuals doing genealogy research using data on the Internet. Due to my age and other factors, I’ve elected to stop my research here and pass my data on to others younger, with more enthusiasm and more time and other resources to devote to continuing such a massive project. I’ve spent more than seven years on this project and have learned things I would have never dreamed of concerning our family, especially the very large number of descendants from my great-grandparents born in the early 1800’s down through my grandchildren and great-grandson born in the late 1900’s and 2000. I’ve enjoyed it. I hope to update and/or add to this publication periodically until I get it ‘correct’ and to have more of the Swindell ancestors and descendants included. (This is the First Edition 2002.) You can help by sending me additional and corrected information. I wish you good reading and the very best of health, happiness, and a long life.
