I am a descendant of Seth's brother Thomas Swindle or Swindell. The reason I wrote a posting was because I am trying to research a family story about Seth Swindell. The Swindle descendants in Benton County TN tell that in the late 1700's a Lord and Lady Howe arrived at Cape Fear after a rough crossing from England while on their honeymoon. Lady Howe refused to return to England so Lord Howe went back, contracted pneumonia and died. He never saw his son William Howe Jr. They go on to say that Seth Swindell was the father of Thomas, John, Seth, William and Nathan Swindle of Benton County, TN. A couple of Howe researchers and I are trying to tie a William Howe, who lived near and had some relationship to James and Mary (Howe) Swindell in Benton County, TN to this story. I wonder if he is the William Howe Jr. of the story or if he was a brother to Mary Howe Swindle. Could Seth Swindell's fisrt wife have been this Lady Howe?
