Hi, Nance -- According to the information I have, some of which came from Mildred Ezells' book SWINT, some from other researchers, some of gleaned from the Internet and which, please note, I have not verified: There was an Edmund CARTLEDGE born 10 Nov 1746 probably in Richmond Co, NC; died 14 Sep 1833 (GA?) ; married Phoebe UNKNOWN. He also married Sarah UNKNOWN abt 1768, Columbia Co, GA. I'm not sure which wife was first and I don't have children's names for them. This Edmund was son of Edmund CARTLEDGE & Elizabeth KREBLE, and was a brother of Elizabeth CARTLEDGE who married John SWINT and a brother to Samuel CARTLEDGE whose line later ties in with the SWINT family. Elizabeth CARTLEDGE & John SWINT had seven sons: John, Edmund, Frederic, James, William David, Joseph, and Samuel. I believe you're talking about two different Elizabeths (Cartledge). The one who married John SWINT was born 11 Nov 1757. The one you're talking about would be born some years later. Mary H. SWINT who married Willis Simpson JOHNSON was a daughter of Rev. Frederic SWINT (he was born 23 Aug 1789) & Elizabeth CARTLEDGE. Mary was born 12 Aug 1814 in Hancock Co, GA & died between 1861 & 1863 in Chambers Co, AL. For Mary & Willis' marriage date, I have 23 Oct 1834, Hancock Co, GA, which is from the book SWINT. Generation 1 Edmund Cartledge & Elizabeth Kreble Generation 2 Elizabeth Cartledge & John SWINT Generation 3 Rev. Frederic Swint & Rebecca Harris (his signature is minus the "k" on the end) Generation 4 Mary H. SWINT & Willis Simpson JOHNSON I don't know if it's 100% proven but I think most researchers now accept that Elizabeth Cartledge was John Swint's wife. I hope something here helps.
