Notes
Individual:
Revolutionary War Service - Pension Claim No. S-32154
Joshua Burnett, the father of Morris R. Burnett, now deceased, late of Taylor township, who lived and died in the same township, was a native of New Jersey. He had a conspicuous natural "mark" that covered one of his temples, but did not injure his looks. He had been a man of very fine physical structure---neither too much nor too little flesh; nice, manly, rugged proportions and appearance. He lived nearly a hundred years and was buried in old Plummer (now Taylor) township. We know nothing about his services in the war, save that he was an honored soldier in it.
Wife and children mentioned, but names not given. Father-in-law mentioned living about four miles from "Kings Mountain". A "cousin" John Palmer is mentioned as serving with him in GA Militia. John Palmer's Rev. Pension Claim papers, No. W-309, he does not mention Joshua Burnett, but John's wife uses a page from a book labeled "William Burnett" to prove her marriage to John when she applies for widow's pension upon the death of John.
Joshua's pension declaration also states he took his family from N. C. after the war back to Wilkes Co. GA, and lived there about a year before moving on to District 96, S.C. for 5 or 6 years and then to within 8 miles of Augusta GA, for 4 or 5 years and then to Franklin Co., GA, and back to N.C. where he lived in Burke and Buncombe Co. before moving on to Cocke and Jefferson and Hamilton Co. in TN. From TN he moved to Washington Co., IN. Son Joshua Burnett, Jr. married Elizabeth Housh in Washington Co., IN. From Washington Co., Joshua moved north to Greene Co., IN where he applied for Rev. pension
Papers in the pension file show Joshua transferred his pension to Knox Co. Court House in IL 1841-1843. Son Joshua & wife and 7 children moved to Knox Co., IL in 1836 and were residing in Haw Creek Twp., Knox Co., IL.
Pension papers also show Joshua Burnett applied for a transfer of his pension from Knox Co. back to IN on Sept. 1845. He stated that his reason was he did not like IL as well as IN and 3 of his children resided in IN where he had formerly resided.
