Family of Maj. Franklin Sykes and Mercy Ann Elliott
Posted by: William Muller (ID *****3372) Date: October 19, 2011 at 18:03:03

Seeking information on the family of Maj. Franklin Sykes (1821-1881) and Mercy Ann Elliot (1825-1888) in Wyoming Co., NY. Franklin and Mercy Ann were the parents of 4 children:

Peter (1847-1910);
Orange Walter (my wife's great grandfarther) (1852-1907);
Lucinda (1858-??);
Edwin (1862-??)

Franklin is identified as a farmer in 1850 and 1880.

Franklin is supposed to have been born in Pike, Wyoming Co., NY and died in Eagle.
QUESTIONS include: First, where does the military title of “Maj.” come from? We can find no evidence that he served in the Civil War.

Secondly, where is he buried?

Mercy (or Mary) Ann Elliott is much more of a mystery. Who were her parents? Where is she buried?

Willing to share information.

Bill Muller
