My great grandfather was Samuel Symes. He was married in September 1871 to Mary Gill. My grandfather was Alfred Henry Symes was born in 1872 in Askerwell, Dorset, England. I found records relating to him in the 1881 England Census listing Bridport as the registration district. His mother died in childbirth. My great grandfather remarried.

My grandfather emmigrated to Illinois in 1886. He married my grandmother Birdie Alice Cook on October 16, 1900. My father was their oldest son Raymond Lester Symes. I am his youngest daughter, Sharon Rae Symes Walsh.

I realize your posting is 4 years old, but if you have any connection to this branch of the family I would like to hear about it. Perhaps there were half brothers or sisters from my Great Grandfather's second marriage.
