Taffe is how I spell my maiden name. While researching my grandfather in Somerville MA I discovered Josephen Stephen Taffe (my grandfather)had a large family. His parents were William Taffe and Mary Hafford. All their children were born in Somerville MA. As I went through the birth records of 15 children I found each of their last names were spelled
with every form of Taffe. Taft, Taff, Taaffe and Taffe. The oldest son Patrick Henry Taffe went to court in later years and legally changed his name to Taff. William Taffe was b 1836 in Ireland and died 22 May 1894 in Somerville MA and is buried in Calvery Catholic Cem in Worburn per his death cert. His parents were listed as Patrick Taffe and Mary ?. Mary Hafford (w/o William Taffe) b 1843 in Ireland d 21 Mar 1893 in Somerville and is buried in Calvery Catholic Cem in Woburn MA. I also found that William Taffe had a brother John b 1829 in Ireland and d 19 Mar 1891 in Woburn MA and was buried Calvery Catholic Cem in Woburn. His wife was Ann

My father never knew his father. His parents were supposed to be divorced and his mother remarried. I can not however find any record of a divorce and Joseph death cert said he was married and the informant was his sister Annie Sullivan. He died after his wife remarried of TB I went to the cemetary he was buried in and could find no stone. If any has any futher information on this family I would be so happy to hear from you.
