I do not believe that is correct. Our family was Taaffe (later Taffe)and were/still are very much Catholic. In my research I have come across very few Taaffe/Taffe's who were not Catholic. Most of the Taft's, however, are Protestant.

I recently read a book from the early 1900's explaining how the Taft family were Protestants and very much involved with the Scots-Irish. The Taft family, of course, is a branch of the Taaffe family which settled in Massachusetts in the 1600's. This branch of the family descends from Sir William Taaffe (Taft) who received a grant in Ulster from King James.

County Louth is the historical home of the Taaffe family. Including the branches which later came from Sligo and even the Germany branch of the family.
