I am updating my post in case anyone can make a connection.

Thomas Taaffe was baptized on 17 Jan 1804 at St. Brigid's Catholic Church in Dunleer Parish, County Louth, Ireland. He was the son of Patrick Taaffe and Mary Hand.

Patrick Taaffe was born in 1782, the son of Laurence Taaffe and Mary Hardman. Mary Hand was born in 1783, in Ardee, the daughter of Joseph Hand and Anne MaGuinis. She was sister to Patrick Hand, who later was sent to Australia.

Patrick Taaffe and Mary Hand were married at St. Brigid's in Dunleer on 15 Mar 1803.

Thomas Taaffe married Margaret Ward on 23 Feb 1830 at St. Brigid's. Margaret, baptized on 24 Oct 1810, was the daughter of Lawrence Ward and Jane Verdon.

Thomas and Margaret had at least one child prior to their emigration. Their daughter Mary was baptized 2 Jun 1833 at St. Brigid's. Whether or not Mary emigrated with her parents is unknown since the first US census showing Thomas and Margaret wasn't until 1850 and Mary is unlisted. She may have been married by that time or she may have died young.

All of other known children of Thomas and Margaret were born in Pennsylvania after 1840.
