A bit more information on Elizabeth Taaffe. She was a Harmon and a Delware Indian who moved to Missouri on the Trail of Tears. I can trace the family directly back to Elizabeth and Thomas, but prior to this it gets a bit hazy. However, I know from oral family records that Elizabeth was listed on the Native American census of 1900, but I have yet to verify that. I was told by my uncle that Elizabeth and Thomas were both listed on PA tax rolls as being "Freeman" which I believe is another way of saying a person of colour.

The information that I found in the Missouri records is:

Mr. Thomas Taaffe of St. Francois Co., Mo. over 21; Miss Elizabeth Harmon of St. Francois Co., Mo. over 18; 15 October 1885 license; married on 15 October 1885 by Alvin Rucker, MG of the M. E. Church South at Farmington, St. Francois Co., Mo.
