To Linda Adams, if you're still visiting this website/forum, I saw your messages regarding the Gregg and Taaffe families of Illinois last year, and unfortunately your e-mail was inactive, so I was unable to respond to you directly. Perhaps you'll see this posting at some point- please e-mail me if you do! My Great Great Grandfather, Marion Green (or Greene) Gregg was born in Ohio of Scotch-Irish (Scots who moved to Ireland?) parentage, according to my Great Aunt Edna Gregg. The Green or Greene stood for his mother's maiden name. Marion had one brother, Benjamin. Marion's father died when he was 2 years old, and his mother did not remarry. At some point, unknown to my Great Aunt Edna, the family moved from Ohio to Indiana (Bartholomew county, she guessed). Marion G. Gregg married Catherine Burkhart. Marion G. was a Methodist, and Catherine joined the Methodist Church when they were married. Catherine's family were German Catholics. Marion G. and Catherine Gregg had five children: Marion Alonzo ("Uncle Lonnie"), Benjamin Adam (Uncle Benny who disappeared), John Lewis (my Great Grandfather), Mary Lula Edith, and Charles Edwin (Uncle Charlie died at age 19 or so. ) John Lewis Gregg and Bertha Taaffe had four children: Russell Taaffe Gregg (the one son you mentioned), James Willard (my grandfather), Edna Lyndall, and Ruby Alice (who died at the age of 12.) I have some photos of your grandfather ("Uncle Lonnie" as my aunt called him) with my great grandfather and also some with his children, Ray (your father?) Hazel & Nell. There is another photo with Marion Alonzo's youngest child, Teddy Gregg, as a young man, and there is a note on the back indicating that he died of a heart attack at age 40-something.
