Lyle Jerome Taarud, 73, was born on December 23, 1933, in Dovray, Minnesota. He was the son of Neil and Anna Knutson Taarud. Lyle grew up on the family farm and attended school in Dovray. He was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Dovray. Lyle married Betty Kilker on June 3, 1953, in Worthington, Minnesota. He was a long-time business owner, owning and operating the Taarud Garage in Worthington for forty years. Lyle was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Worthington. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping in South Dakota, Minnesota, and Canada, walking, casino trips, telling jokes, and having coffee with his friends. He also loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. Lyle died on Wednesday, January 17, 2007, at the Worthington Regional Hospital in Worthington, Minnesota.
Lyle is survived by his wife, Betty, of Worthington; one son, Randy (Marjo) Taarud, of Worthington, along with their children, Joshua Taarud, Angela Taarud, Amber Taarud, Elia Fellows, Kelsey Fellows, and Caleb Fellows; four daughters, Patricia (Alan) Childers, of Worthington, along with their children, Brian (Lynne) Childers and son, Justin, and Jason Childers and fiancée, Ashley and daughter, Lexus Anderson, Sharla (Doug) Bengtson, of Wood Lake, MN, along with their children, Sheri (Derek) Burns and daughter, Grace, and Sheila Bengtson, Debra (Bill) Geertsema, of Worthington, along with their children, Philip Geertsema and Lance Geertsema, and Connie (Virgil) Bremer, of Lawton, IA, along with their children, Zachary Bremer and Michaela Bremer; one brother, Richard (Len) Taarud, of Yorba Linda, CA, and one sister, Dorothy Anderson, of Hutchinson, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and one brother-in-law.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 20, 2007, at 11:00 a.m., at the First United Methodist Church in Worthington, Minnesota, with the Rev. Gordon J. Orde and the Rev. Leon Andersen officiating. Casket bearers were Brian Childers, Jason Childers, Joshua Taarud, Philip Geertsema, Lance Geertsema, Zachary Bremer, Caleb Fellows, and Derek Burns. Honorary bearers were Sheri Burns, Sheila Bengtson, Angela Taarud, Amber Taarud, Michaela Bremer, Lynne Childers, Elia Fellows, and Kelsey Fellows. Private family burial will be held at a later date.
