Jewell Motley
— Jewell Motley, 96, of McAlester, died here Tuesday, June 12, 2007.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Savanna First Baptist Church with the Rev. Kyle Cummings and the Rev. Dale Boggs officiating. Burial will be in Savanna Cemetery, Savanna. Masonic service will be provided by the Savanna Lodge No. 534. Arrangements are under the direction of Chaney-Harkins Funeral Home of McAlester.
Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
Born May 20, 1911, in Leadhill, Ark., to John Thomas and Sara Susan (Hawkins) Motley, he married Opal Decker in June of 1931. He worked as a coal miner for Lone Star Steel Coal Company and other mines in the area. He also worked for the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant and for Brown and Bellows as a carpenter.
He was a member of the Lost Cherokee Tribe of Arkansas and a member of the Savanna Masonic Lodge No. 534, Eastern Star and Scottish Rite. He was active in the United Mine Workers Union, serving as president and recording secretary. He was a member of the American Federation of Government Employees and was a member of the Savanna First Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. He enjoyed talking and visiting with his family and friends.
Survivors include sons, Ronald Motley and wife, Anita, of Ponca City and Paul Motley and wife, Wanda, of Novice, Texas; daughter, Mildred ?Millie? McClain, of McAlester; grandchildren, Sharlotte Brice, of Ponca City, Gerald Motley and wife, Cindy, of Ponca City, Ronald Eugene Motley, of Texas, Charles Motley, of Arizona, Larry Motley and wife, Beckie, of Texas, ********James Motley and wife, Rhonda, of Texas**************, Mathew Motley and wife, Stacey, of Texas, Gary Wansick and wife, Janet, of McAlester
And, great-grandchildren, Bradley Brice, Corey Brice, Elle Motley, Avery Motley, C.J. Motley, Forrest Motley, Zachery Motley, Hagen Motley, Brandon Wansick, Brynna Wansick, and Erin Hampton; sister, Esther Fallon and husband, Emmet, of New Mexico; very special niece, Alma Rice and husband, Charley, of Arkansas; sisters-in-law, Delores Decker, of Arizona and Mary Decker, of Ashland, and other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Motley; mother, Sara Motley; son, Daniel Motley; stepmother, Myrtle Motley; his wife, Opal in 1989; granddaughter, Kimberly Motley; brothers, John, Conley, B.W., Orville, Billy Joe, Donnie and Leon; sisters, Orlena, Ola, Arkie and Lula Belle, and brothers-in-law, John Decker, Jim Decker, Lannie Decker and Hurbert Decker.
