I came across this and thought someone could use this information.
22 Sep 1809, " . . . the following instrument of writing was produced in open court & proved by the oath of Thomas N. CLARK & Ephraim PRITCHETT tow of the subscribing witnesses thereto & ordered to be recorded to wit. State of Tennessee Roane County, Be it known to all whom it may concern that Tom and his wife Darcus who were formerly the slaves of Col. James TABB now deceased and by his last will and Testament were to be liberated and made free agreeable to the laws of this State these are therefore to cetify that the above mentioned follow Tom and his family are at perfect liberty to hire to any person or persons whomsoever may think prper to emloy them Given under my hand & seal this 15th day of August 1809."
