Thomas Tabb's wife was not Mary Armistead, daughter of Anthony Armistead, as published in older accounts. She was Mary Johnson, daughter of Mark and Elizabeth (Westwood) Johnson of Elizabeth City County. See John Bennett Boddie, Historical Southern Families, pp. 10-11. This Mary married (1) Thomas Tabb; (2) Matthew Wills; (3) Robert Armistead. The confusion came about because her mother Elizabeth (Westwood) Johnson married Anthony Armistead as her second husband.
