Angel.
Taday = Thaday, Thadaj (in Latin). It is polish first name Tadeusz.
In 1382 village Tadajewo was owned by Tadeusz (Thadaj). He is signed on a document dated 1382 as “Tadeius haeres de Thadajo”
When polish surnames arrived,it was common among the Polish gentry of mid-16th century to add the suffix “-ski” or "-wski" to the name of the village they owned. The surname could be altered at inheriting, acquiring by marriage or in another way, lease, lien of new villages, or even formed from a step-father’s estate.
My surname derrived from the acestors who owned the village Tadajewo. Persons of the surname Taday, Tadaj, Taddey in my oppinion derived from the persons (side lines of Tadajewski) who could not add -"wski" caused not owned the land that time (XVI century). I have got one line persons of the name Thaddey (evangelical parish Strasburg (now Brodnica, Poland))who changed name to Tadajewski.
Best wishes from Poland.
Andrzej Tadajewski
