How wonderful to hear from you! I remembermy gt.grandfather Bob Tailby with great affection - and to think he was your uncle!
Since the message that you have replied to, myself, Ray Arthur, and Angie Tailby have been in constant correspondance and have discovered quite a history going back to Leicester 1789.
Arthur Tailby's father was William (who was a Master Tailor and then a Publican). He was born in France (Bourthes, in the North) on 30 May 1817 and died at his pub - The Oxford Tavern, 92 Portobello Road, London on 24 Aug 1880.
William's father was John Tailby, born 1789, Wigston, Leicester. He was in the 12th Lancers and served all over Europe.
I have some photos of the Tailby "boys" all together in Army uniforms, and one of them in "civvies" with their mother Jane. I can email or post you copies, if you would like to see them. I can also send you a copy of the Family Tree as we know it to date.
Where are you? Are you in the UK? (I'm in Eastbourne). Perhaps we could have a chat?
Either way, it is really great to meet another member of the family - I would love to know more about your branch.
Please do reply.
With best wishes
Michele Ranger
P.S. Victor was Bob's best man at his wedding - I have photos of that too - he married Florence Baulcomb who lived next door to the Tailbys at Winter Road, Eastbourne.
