I have found a listing where Tolbert Clay m.Nancy Harris Apr 7, 1805 Mecklenburg Co, VA. He served in the 98th Reg't (Green's) VA Militia per the War of 1812 Service Records. He is listed with his family on the 1820(Talbert) & 1830(Tolbird) Mecklenburg Co, VA census. I don't locate him 1840. In 1847 a Talbott Clay purchased land in Greene Co., Ohio on which Maston Clay paid taxes 1847-1850. Another marriage record was found for a Tolbird Clay (aged 69 yrs) & Elizabeth Rakestraw (aged 68 Yrs) Sept 15, 1849 Greene Co, Ohio. They are not listed on the 1850 Greene Co, Ohio census. Talbott/Tolbert/Tolbird Clay died 10/20/1855 at the Greene Co Infirmary. I am trying to locate who Tolbert Clay's parents were and what his relationship was with Maston Clay. Could Tolbert/Talbott/Tolbird Clay's mother have been a Talbott/Tolbert? Maston is my great-grandfather and it appears that Tolbert could be his father. Any assistance to clearing this mystery will be greatly appreciated.
