Hi again Jose,
Yes, there are Tanco's in Puerto Rico who are related to some of the Tanco's in New York and Florida. This information was confirmed in a telephone call about a year ago. The problem was that the names that I was searching for were only familiar. Also, I was asked about the Tanco-Romero connection or family. The actual relatives were either quite elderly or had passed away. The Edmund Tanco of the previous message was living in New York. Jose, there is a story of my great-great-grandfather coming to this country. It seems that he was born in Spain and sent as a diplomat to Cuba. Some sort of conflict occurred within the Cuban government or between Spain and Cuba. He was either asked to leave or decided to move to the United States (New York). He did this and met a woman of French descent (Madeline Baquet) and they had at least one child in New York. There were three children born during this marriage. This marriage soon dissolved after the birth of the third child and she married "Seneca?" McNeill. I have not been able to trace one of the other children. The 1900 Federal Census for Texas confirms that my great-great-grandfather was born in Spain and that my great-grandfather was born in New York. To date, I haven't found any indication that any of the children were born in Cuba from this marriage but some of the family members either returned to the Carribean to visit or live. Possibly, there was a previous marriage in Spain or Cuba before he came to the United States. If you would like to exchange information I will help you search for your Tanco family members also!!! deb-
