Sam Tannyhill murdered a young waitress in Fremont, Ohio in 1955. He was sentenced to death and died in the Ohio electric chair in November 1956. Here is a link to his picture. I don't know if this is the same Sam you are looking for. I live in the town where it happened and the story goes, that he was robbing a diner and the waitress knew his mother and called him by name. He took her to Tindall Bridge and that is where the murder occured.
