John Tapley, Dinwiddie Co.,mid 1700's

I am seeking anyone who has traced his or her ancestry to the John Tapley/Tarpley who appears as a land owner in Dinwiddie County in the mid 1700's. My husband's Tarpleys, who are definitely descended from Dinwiddie Co. Tarpleys, have assumed that he is the same John Tarpley who appears in Richmond County records, a member of a family that was in Richmond Co. for several generations. Recently this has been called into question, and I have not seen the proof that the Dinwiddie Tarpleys are the Richmond Tarpleys. The question is complicated by the scarcity of Prince George/Dinwiddie county records. Any help appreciated.
