Yes, the 1851/2 census does make it clear that Jacob Stringstead was b. in the USa. Mistakes of that sort are fairly common in compositions online. His children, however, I would think would be necessarily born in what is now Ontario, especially as it is unlikely that his wife, Mary Ann Tapley, was ever in the US. One son, John, apparently did go to Kansas and appears there in the 1880 census.
