Lynn, I'm not the John who has the book listed in the above message, but I'm thinking I just might have the same book mentioned.I'm a Teach family decendant and have spent some time researching it.In the book that I have, in the early pages it mentions that the family does not show in the 1810 census. But I have found them (1810) listed with the last name of DITCH.It appears in this census that the wife of Mathias may have remarried. Also, they were living next door to a Jacob Rush.Jacob is listed with daughters with an age that could be the Rush girls that married Peter Teach. (Betsy and Martha)
Also, one of the Teach men who married, was listed as DITCH, and later proven from land records that his name was Teach.
It's in my humble opinin that we could have Teach family that came down through the years as DITCH, as more than once we have Teach family recorded as DITCH. It must have been the way they pronounced it.
Jack
