Jacob TELFORD, Civil War soldier, m. Mary Jewett, Temperance magazine editor
Hi,
I am slowly and steadily researching my ggg aunt Mary Jewett Telford's story for a book (if enough info) or at least a cool short story.
Jacob TELFORD, Civil War soldier, m. Mary Jewett after the Civil War. Jacob was severely wounded during the Battle of Stones River, Tenn. while serving with the 15th Indiana Volunteers.
Mary Jewett was a nurse at Hospital #8 in Nashville, Tenn. This is possibly where they met, but not sure. Mary and Jacob moved to Colorado where Mary was a charter member of the Womens' Relief Auxiliary to the Grand Army of the Republic (the huge post war Union veterans group).
Mary also was a Temperance magazine editor.
When Jacob died, as requested Mary put him in his coffin, on a train to Murfreesboro, Tenn., where the Battle of Stones River was fought and where Jacob certainly lost some friends.
I have a photo of Jacob's gravestone in the National Cemetery at Stones River, across from the battlefield visitors center.
I would appreciate any and all info, letter, contacts of living descendants (cousins, they had no children) you can provide on either Mary Jewett Telford or Jacob Telford's side.
Thanks!
