Hi Amy, thanks for responding!
I suppose it is possible that he could have been in New Jersey, but I am not certain. I have been tiold that he was born in Miami County, Indiana, however.
I wrote to the Maimi County Historical Society and they don't have much information on the Terhune family outside of some Census records, but those only lead to more questions. There was no record in the census of a John and Barbara Terhune in those census sheets.
I think if we can find John's parents for certain, we will then tie in to the Terhune line that you mentioned.
In the case of Hannah Matilda Terhune, if Hannah is my John's daughter, John would have been married twice because he and Barbara married in April 1843, the year before my ggggrandmother Martha Jane Terhune was born, in 1844.
That is possible, or course, but since I have so little info to work with, I have a very incomplete picture.
My sources come from census and from other researchers. One of those researchers told me John was born in Miami county, but I have no evidence of this.
I will keep your information in mind. But if you locate addititional information in the future please let me know.
