Our goal is to trace the history of the Terhune ancestral home built in Harrodsburg, KY between 1807 and 1820 on the 600 acre property that Garret Terhune acquired in 1807.
When Garret drowned in the Salt River in 1821, his son Peter arranged to buy all of his father's land, then 290 acres, less 75 acres including "the mansion home" set aside as Catherine's dower that Peter would acquire upon her death. The document related to this transaction indicates that Peter was a resident of Davidson Co., TN.
And therein lies the crux of our problem...Peter's whereabouts and circumstances...residence, occupation,
birth/marriage/death records, land holdings/dealings, etc. and when he left Tennessee (sold land?) and returned to KY.
Until we recently discovered Peter's link to the family home, we had not focused our research attention on him. We know that some years before his father Garret's death that Peter Terhune (1790-1855) and his younger brother, John (1794-1875) went to Tennessee where they married (between 1816-1820) Lucinda EATON and Prudence EATON, respectively. We also know that they were back in Harrodsburg by 1837 when Peter completed the acquisition of his late father's and mother's land.
We have just returned from a 2-week search & copy venture in Harrodsburg, Mercer Co., KY. We came home with 200+ copies of primarily deeds and a few wills.
We would be most grateful if you could shed some light on Peter and John Terhune in Tennessee between the years of roughly 1815-1837...as well as information you might have relating to the Eaton family.
In return, it would be our pleasure to share with you any documents and/or information you may find of interest.
